Fresh Herbs and Fish

This summer I have been striving to make more meals with fish. Last week I made my first Fish Tacos, recipe from myrecipes.com, which by the way I love. It gives you little videos you can watch to get inspired. The Fish Tacos were great, and pretty easy to make. The fresh produce and herbs made the meal. Right now I am in love with fresh herbs!

Filled with Raspberries and Fun

Kerri and I went raspberry picking at Cider Hill Farm today. The raspberries were beautiful and the weather was just right. We started picking raspberries and at first we had trouble picking enough to fill Kaiden and our baskets!
Kaiden loved the raspberries. Here he is saying cheese with one in his mouth. I felt like we were in the children's book "Blueberries For Sal" by Robert McCloskey where Sal eats most of her berries and only saves a couple.
"Kurplink, Kurplank, Kurplunk"

Kaiden finally slowed down and Kerri and I were able to pick four baskets of raspberries. When I got home I made raspberry iced tea. I hope to make raspberry chocolate chip muffins too!

Sushi!

Sushi!  This summer we enjoyed making sushi with our friends.  It was so fun to roll the sushi.  We used avocado, carrot, rice, basil, cucumber and crab.  Kerri and I wanted to use tuna but we could not find any tuna to use, next time I guess.  Most of the vegetables were from the garden which made the sushi so fresh.  We ate the sushi while watching the Olympics!

Ratatouille

Nick and I went to the Hildebrandt's for dinner on Tuesday night.  It wasn't just a normal dinner it was a multi-
sensory experience!  Kim and Mike had us assemble our own main dish, without telling us what we were making.  We layered tomatoes,
zucchini, onion, cheese, garlic and eggplant and baked it.  When it came out we flipped it and Mike and Kim told us we were eating Ratatouille!  After eating the delicious meal we viewed the Disney movie "Ratatouille".  What a culinary experience!

Cooking Over the Open Fire

This was the most intense meal that we made this summer.  It took us 3 hours for the whole dinner process.  I don't know how people did it back when you were relient on your ability to start a fire.  Nick and I spent at least 1 1/2 hours trying to start the fire because everything was wet and even then it still took forever for the burgers to cook.  But in the end they were the best burgers of the summer (probably because we were so hungry :)

Catching up with Cooking

This last month I took three graduate classes.  During this time I had no time to cook, let alone create anything exciting in the kitchen.  But our kitchen was kept busy.  Maybe our kitchen is a magic kitchen, or it doesn't like to be left alone but the kitchen inspired Nick (my husband) to create.  I thought that with Nick's new found skill I needed to call this blog "Dinner with the D'Onofrio's" because some creations might be created by Nick.
